A severe heatwave is expected to affect our region starting today, Monday, June 17th, through Saturday, June 22nd. Please be aware of the following details and take necessary precautions:
Hazards and Impacts:
- Max Heat Indices:
- Tuesday and Wednesday: Widespread middle to upper 90s, with some areas possibly reaching 100°F.
- Thursday and Friday: Heat indices ranging from upper 90s to around 104°F.
- Low Temperatures: Expect overnight lows in the upper 60s to mid-70s, with the warmest nights being Thursday and Friday.
- Timing: Peak heat indices will occur between noon and 8 PM each day.
- Impacts: Increased risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations.
NWS Alerts:
- Heat Advisories: Currently in effect for Northeastern NJ, most of the Lower Hudson Valley, and Northern Fairfield and New Haven counties in Connecticut.
- Extended Advisories: Likely to be extended to include NYC and parts of Southern Connecticut later in the week.

- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Avoid Strenuous Activities: Try to limit outdoor activities, especially during peak heat hours.
