Important Advisory: Boil Water Advisory in Effect for Paterson Campus

SJH Staff,

The City of Paterson has issued a Boil Water Advisory for the entire city due to a major water main break. This advisory affects the St. Joseph’s Health Paterson Campus and is effective immediately until further notice.

Do Not Use Tap Water

Until further notice, tap water should not be used for any activities involving patient care, consumption, food preparation, or equipment cleaning.

Use Bottled Water for the Following:

  • Drinking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing hands (where applicable)
  • Food and beverage preparation
  • Patient care tasks (as appropriate per clinical guidelines)

Bottled Water Distribution

All nursing units will be receiving gallon water bottles which will be delivered for staff use and patient pitchers to be filled.

If your unit or department requires bottled water, please contact the warehouse x4474 for coordination. We are working to ensure sufficient bottled water is made available across all operational areas.

Boiling Guidance

While most departments do not have boiling capabilities, for those areas that do (e.g., Food & Nutrition Services): Water used for consumption or food preparation must be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute, then allowed to cool before use.

Emergency Management and Facilities Operations are actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available.

We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to patient and staff safety.
