Winter Storm Update – January 28, 2022

Storm update from Governor’s briefing today at 11:40a.m.

This is anticipated to be a long duration storm starting around 7:00p.m. tonight thru 7:00p.m. Saturday.

Southern / Shore Counties are under a Blizzard Warning

The rest of the state is under a Winter Storm Warning

State of emergency will be in effect beginning at 5pm this evening as well as a commercial vehicle ban.  Government offices will be closed at 3pm today.

Power outages are expected due to high wind gusts.

Other than the extreme Northwest corner of the state (expecting 3”-4”) the state is broken into 4 snow bands.  To the East of I-95 higher snow totals and to the West of I-95 lower totals.

The bands are as follows:

4”-6”, 6”-8” – Majority of the Northern part of NJ

8”-12”- Mostly Central /Southern areas

12”-18”- Along Coastal areas

The Governor reported there is a high level of confidence in the current predictions.  However, any shifting of the storm further inland would lead to increased snow totals.
