The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for our area, along with an alert for severe thunderstorms expected this afternoon into the evening (Wednesday, June 19). Please use caution when traveling today and stay alert for updates from SJH or local authorities.
Weather Outlook:
- Today, June 19:
- Expect severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
- Localized heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and lightning are possible.
- Thursday through Sunday (June 20–22):
- High temperatures in the upper 80s with elevated humidity.
- Starting Monday, June 23:
- A prolonged period of excessive heat is forecasted.
- High temperatures will climb into the 90s, with humidity making it feel like 105°F or higher.
Staff Guidance:
- Hydrate regularly. Drink water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
- Dress in light, breathable clothing (as approved per HR Policy)
- Be alert for signs of heat-related illness such as dizziness, fatigue, or nausea, and seek assistance immediately if symptoms arise.
Facilities & Operations:
- Facilities and Engineering will continue monitoring HVAC systems and building conditions.
- Security teams will increase checks in high-risk areas, especially those with limited ventilation.
- Please avoid propping open exterior doors, as this compromises climate control.
Patient & Visitor Considerations:
- Extra care should be given to those vulnerable to heat: older adults, pediatric patients, and individuals with chronic illnesses.
- Ensure hydration and cooling resources are available and accessible for patients and visitors.
