Heat Advisory Remains in Effect

A Heat Advisory is currently in effect from noon 07/14/24 until 10 PM EDT Tuesday 07/16/24 for the following counties: Eastern Bergen, Eastern Essex, Eastern Passaic, Eastern Union, Hudson, Western Bergen, Western Essex, and Western Union. During this time, heat index values are expected to reach up to 104 degrees.

**Potential Impacts**

– Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat-related illnesses.
– There is potential for heat indices to reach at least 105 on Tuesday, possibly triggering an Excessive Heat Watch.

**Who is at Risk?**

– Seniors and individuals with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk.
– Homes without air conditioning can become significantly hotter than outdoor temperatures.

**Precautionary and Preparedness Actions**

– Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or seek out air-conditioned places.
– If you don’t have air conditioning at home, continue to find cool spaces each day as long as the heat persists and for a few days after.
– Check on vulnerable friends, family members, and neighbors.

**Safety Tips for Outdoor Activities**

– Schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
– Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
– Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.
