St. Joseph’s Health Family,
The Emergency Management & Preparedness Department is closely monitoring the air quality index (AQI) today, as there is a possibility of an increase (fine inhalable particles, with diameters that are generally 2.5 micrometers and smaller) levels due to wildfires in the southern United States. Currently, the AQI falls within the “Moderate” category.
For individuals who are unusually sensitive to air pollution, it is advisable to keep outdoor activities light and short, and to promptly move indoors if any symptoms arise. This precaution is especially important given the potential for an increase in AQI between noon and 4pm today.
Additionally, please be aware that there may be noticeable haze in the sky and a smell of smoke due to the wildfires. These conditions could impact outdoor activities and may exacerbate respiratory issues for sensitive individuals.
However, we anticipate rainstorms moving in around 4pm, which should help alleviate any AQI concerns by reducing particulate matter in the air.
We urge everyone to stay informed about air quality updates throughout the day and to take necessary precautions to safeguard their health and well-being. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to oem@sjhmc.org.
Stay safe and take care.
