Severe Thunderstorm Threat Sunday (June 30) Afternoon / Evening

A strong cold front is expected to approach on Sunday and move across the area late Sunday afternoon and evening. This front will bring the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms region-wide. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region in a slight risk for severe thunderstorms on Sunday. Additionally, the Weather Prediction Center has placed the region in a marginal risk of excessive rainfall on Sunday.

Key Messages:

Timing: Strong to severe thunderstorms are most likely to occur between 2 PM and 10 PM (from west to east).

Primary Threat: The main threat with any storms will be strong and damaging wind gusts, with gusts potentially exceeding 60 mph.

Secondary Threats: There is also a risk of large hail and an isolated tornado.

Flooding Risk: Localized flash flooding cannot be ruled out.
