The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area, effective Sunday, January 19th, 12 PM through 4 AM Monday, January 20th. A fast-moving low-pressure system is expected to bring 5 to 8 inches of snow to the Paterson and Wayne campuses, with hazardous travel conditions anticipated.
Key Details:
• Snowfall Accumulation: 5 to 8 inches expected.
• Peak Snowfall Rates: ½ to 1 inch per hour at times.
• Timing: Snow begins Sunday afternoon and continues into late Sunday night.
• Temperature Drop: Highs in the 20s°F on Monday, with overnight lows in single digits. Wind chills as low as -5°F to -15°F Monday night into early Tuesday.
Impacts:
• Hazardous travel conditions on snow-covered roads, especially bridges and overpasses.
• Potential freezing of poorly insulated pipes and infrastructure, leading to water supply disruptions.
• Risk of frostbite and hypothermia with prolonged exposure to cold.
Staff Accommodations:
To support our team during this storm, accommodations are being provided for staff who wish to remain on-site during the storm:
• Paterson Campus: Contact the Paterson Staffing Office (973-754-3085/3086) to be accounted for and receive your placement.
• Wayne Campus: Contact the Wayne Staffing Office (973-956-3667) for assistance and placement.
• Staff utilizing accommodations at work will be provided meal tickets by Food & Nutrition Services for use during their stay. These meal tickets are only available to staff remaining in the provided accommodations.
Actions Taken:
• Facilities Operations has staged snow removal equipment, scheduled deicing, and inspected HVAC systems.
• Security Teams are preparing to ensure safe access to all hospital facilities.
• Emergency Management will monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.

• Plan extra travel time and use caution when commuting to work.
• Dress in layers and avoid prolonged exposure to the cold.
• Ensure vehicles are winterized and equipped with emergency supplies.
